Magura ADC Laboni commits suicide, her former bodyguard's body found next morning

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 22: Khulna Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Khandkar Laboni Akhter committed suicide by wrapping a veil around her neck.

Within hours of her suicide, the bullet-riddled body of her former bodyguard, Constable Mahamudul, was found on the roof of the four-storey barracks of Magura town Police Lines. Magura Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said that he had committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a government rifle.

He said that the police are working to solve the mystery of two separate incidents. It is yet to be confirmed if there is any link between the two incidents.

It is known that Mahmudul, the son of Ejazul Haque of Daulatpur Upazila Sadar in Kushtia, was previously in the Khulna Metropolitan Police. He was transferred to Magura a month and a half ago.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said that Mahmudul was posted as ADC Laboni Akhter's bodyguard in Khulna.

Meanwhile, Laboni Akhter tried to commit suicide by twisting a veil around her neck and hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Wednesday night while visiting her grandmother's house in Magura. The family members took her to Magura Sadar Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

It is known that Laboni's in-laws are in Faridpur city. Her husband Tarek Abdullah is an Assistant Director (AD) of Bangladesh Bank. He is in India for cancer treatment.
