Maiden voyage of Naphtha from India Oil Refinery coming to Bangladesh
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 4: For the first time, petroleum product naphtha (a by-product of gas) is coming to Bangladesh through the port of Haldia in India.
This petro product is used in the preparation of various chemical compounds and consumables in the fuel and petrochemical industries. The product is coming to Bangladesh in a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation and Haldia Port Trust to strengthen trade between the two countries.
A cargo named T Shanghai carrying about two thousand tons of naphtha has already started its journey on India-Bangladesh Protocol Route-2. Amal Kumar Mehra, Deputy Chairman, Haldia Port and Partha Ghosh, Executive Director, Haldia Refinery, Indian Oil Corporation officially launched the cargo.
Partha Ghosh said the cargo will go to Mongla port in Bangladesh. Various industrial companies in Bangladesh started importing naphtha from Indian Oil Corporation by river to facilitate low cost. Then gradually various petroleum products will go to Bangladesh from Haldia through this river.
Haldia Port Deputy Chairman Amal Kumar Mehra said it will further strengthen trade relations between the governments of India and Bangladesh. Besides, large commercial areas were also opened between the two countries. He said the cargo is expected to reach Mongla port in six-seven days.
