Main accused in the Cox's Bazar rape case arrested

Own representative, Dhaka, December 27: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Ashiqul Islam, the main accused in the case of 'organized rape of a woman by taking her husband and child hostage' in Cox's Bazar. Commander of the RAB's Legal and Media Wing, Khandaker Al Moin, made the announcement on Sunday night (December 26).

He said Ashiqul Islam, the main accused in the case of 'organized rape' of a woman in Cox's Bazar, had been arrested from Madaripur. Apart from this case, there are 18 other cases against Ashiqul on various charges including abuse of women, arms and yaba business. He was released from prison four months ago.

The woman alleged that last Wednesday (December 22) night, three men led by Ashik first took her to a shack tea shop and raped her. After that, they raped her again at Zia Guest Inn in Kalatali, threatening to kill her husband and eight-month-old child. Ashik took her from the tea shop to the hotel on the back of his motorcycle.

Then on December 23, a man filed a case with the Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station alleging gang rape of his wife. Seven people, including Ashiq, were accused in the case. It has been alleged in the case that the woman was raped while holding her husband and children hostage. Meanwhile, five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
