Malaysia: Authorities detain 252 undocumented Bangladeshi migrant workers for causing social problems

At least 252 undocumented Bangladeshi migrant workers have been held in Malaysia by authorities, media reports said on Sunday.

It said that 425 undocumented migrants were rounded up in an apartment block in Cheras district.

According to Kuala Lumpur immigration department director Syamsul Bahrin Mohshin, the raid at Cheria Heights apartments was carried out following complaints from locals about foreigners causing social problems.

A period of investigations and surveillance was carried out for two weeks.

"Those arrested consist of 252 Bangladeshis, 108 Myanmars, two Filipinos, 30 Indonesians, six Cambodians, 20 Nepalese and seven Pakistanis, all of whom are between eight and 54 years old," Syamsul Bahrin Mohshin said at a press conference after the operation.

The detained people were reportedly working in various industries, including construction and cleaning.
