Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 14: Mentioning that there is a plan to establish a Marine Academy in every division of the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Bangladesh Marine Academy should take steps to build mariners in such a way that they can operate high-tech seafarers.

She said, "I want to set up a Marine Academy in every division, where our boys and girls will not only be trained, they will also have huge employment opportunities at home and abroad and our unemployment problem will be solved."

The Prime Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 'Mujibvarsh Graduation Parade' of the cadets of the 56th batch of Bangladesh Marine Academy on Sunday. She was virtually connected to the Bangladesh Marine Academy Parade Ground in Chittagong via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Currently, the acceptance of the academy in the international arena has increased a lot, there are employment opportunities and we have started four more marine academies in Pabna, Barisal, Rangpur and Sylhet from January this year as per the demand of the sea-world. I hope that the Bangladesh Marine Academy will take appropriate steps in the coming days to create skilled enough Marine cadets to operate high-tech marine vessels."

The Prime Minister said, "About 5,000 trained cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy alone add about 230 million USD to our economy every year by providing services in related fields. Moreover, they are brightening the image of the country by working with a very good reputation in the competitive international arena."

Minister of State for Shipping, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Mohammad Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury, spoke on the occasion.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury distributed prizes among the meritorious cadets. Senior Cadet Captain Nadeem Ahmed received the President's Gold Medal for his meritorious contribution in all grounds.

Academy Commandant Dr. Sajid Hussain announced the graduation of 56 batches of cadets on behalf of the Prime Minister.
