Own correspondent, Dhaka, 22 July 2023: A young man named Matiur Rahman (36) returned to his parents from India after twenty one years of disappearance. Social worker of Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation of India came to give Matiur after the legal and immigration process of both countries at Banglabandha land port on Friday afternoon. The relatives started crying with the joy of getting him back. Matiur Rahman is the eldest son of Sahidul Islam and Morjina Begum of South Devidanga village in Akhanagar Union of Thakurgaon.

According to his family, Matiur Rahman disappeared 21 years ago after losing his mental balance. Unknowingly, he crossed the Bangladesh-India border and entered India.

An Indian human rights organization called Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation took Matiur off the streets and provided medical care for the past three years while he was a vagabond. Meanwhile, Motiur returned to his country through both countries after he recovered a bit and introduced himself. After a long wait, the family members including the parents burst into tears after getting their son back. The atmosphere became heavy with the cries of relatives.

Matiur went missing in 2002 at the age of 15. However, no one could say when and how Matiur crossed the country's borders to India.

Crying, mother Marjina Begum said, "I have cried a lot to and prayed to Allah for my son. I have prayed that he will be healthy wherever he is. Finally Allah has heard my prayers. He has returned him safely to my arms."

Father Sahidul Islam said, "I will pray all my life for those who returned my Manik. Because of them, my son was able to return to the country."

Other family members said, "At one point we gave up hope. We thought Matiur was not alive."

Nitish Sharma, social worker of Shraddha Rehabilitation Foundation, said, "Matiur Rahman was rescued from the road in Karjat area of Maharashtra, India, in a mentally disturbed condition. Later after treating him, we found out that his home is in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. We are very happy to be able to hand him over to his family today through various channels. For the first time we have been able to return someone from a foreign country."
