Dhaka, December 19: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said there is no shortage of security for the US ambassador in Dhaka.

He said, "We should have informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the US ambassador will go there (a house in Dhaka's Shaheen Bagh). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not know, neither do we. As soon as we came to know, our OC in charge rushed there in civil dress."

He said these things in response to questions from journalists after a meeting of the National Committee on Coordination, Management and Law and Order of Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Citizens organized at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (December 18).

Responding to a question from reporters about the security of the US ambassador, the home minister said, "There was no lack of security for him [Peter D Haas]. We had police force there. Whenever the police force heard that the US ambassador was going there, it became the duty of the police to go there. If you watch the videos Look, you will see - the OC ran in civilian clothes before he put on police clothes. So the police went there. I have not received any report that there was any lack of security for him there."

The US ambassador said, "How did the information that he was going there get leaked?" When the journalists drew the attention of the Home Minister, he said, "We do not know this. He did not give us any information. We do not know how the information was leaked, whether the information was leaked from there or not."

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "Our police system is so tight that we have a bit policing system in every ward. Our OC is in charge because he got the news, who could not even change his dress. He ran before that. He made arrangements so that his security would not be disturbed."

When asked about the US ambassador's request for extra security, the home minister said, "There is enough security in the embassy. When they come out, they come out with our security. There are four states, which are given more security. The US ambassador is one of them. So when he comes there." He came with 'front-back' security. We have not heard of any question about his security."
