Mitsubishi Bangla Car Mitsubishi Motors to set up new plant in the country
Dhaka, September 4: Mitsubishi Motor Corporation of Japan (MMC) is going to conduct a survey in Bangladesh to test the feasibility of manufacturing and adding Mitsubishi brand cars. Mitsubishi Motor Corporation, in association with Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Industries, will conduct the necessary feasibility study through the formation of a company.
To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) under the Ministry of Industries and Mitsubishi Motor Corporation of Japan through an informal ceremony at Shilpa Bhaban in Motijheel on Thursday.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was the chief guest and State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder was the special guest at the signing ceremony. Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana presided over the function.
Shahidul Haque Bhuiyan, Chairman, Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation and Kurahashi Masatsugu, General Manager, Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Mitsubishi Motor Corporation signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
In his keynote address, the Industries Minister called upon the local and foreign investors to set up factories for the manufacture of motorized vehicles and parts in Bangladesh. He also hoped that the 'Bangla Car' brand would be launched by 2025.
Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, Sahabuddin Ahmed, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, representatives of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation and other officials of the Ministry of Industry and other concerned persons participated in the event directly or virtually.
According to the MoU, BSEC and Mitsubishi Motor Corporation will conduct a study on the possibility of setting up a joint venture company to manufacture Mitsubishi brand vehicles in Bangladesh by 2025, as well as take necessary steps to set up joint ventures.
