Momen wanted easy access to ready-made garments in the Indonesian market

Bangladesh Minister Momen has requested Indonesian government to ensure the process of entry of goods manufactured in his country to Indonesia easier.

He made this request in a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Jakarta.

This was informed in an official statement on Wednesday.

In the meeting, Momen expressed satisfaction that the bilateral trade volume between the two countries has recently crossed three billion US dollars. However, he also mentioned the massive imbalance between Bangladesh's import and export volumes.

The foreign minister said that this gap can be reduced only by increasing the export of Bangladeshi products in the Indonesian market, especially those in which Bangladesh has a competitive advantage. Calling Indonesia an important trade partner of Bangladesh in the ASEAN region, he said there is great potential to further increase this bilateral trade and investment with complementary energy and resources.

Momen expressed hope that the bilateral preferential trade agreement between the two countries will be finalized soon.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed various aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries, including trade and investment cooperation and cooperation between the two countries in international forums, Bangladesh's efforts to become a sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN and the issue of repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya) who have temporarily taken refuge in Bangladesh. has

Indonesian Foreign Minister Marsudi emphasized on the socio-economic development under the efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Noting that Bangladesh and Indonesia have cultural similarities and a historical bond between the people, he stressed on exploring new avenues of cooperation and partnership to build a stronger and dynamic relationship between the two countries.

The two ministers also emphasized the possibility of further enhancing cooperation to ensure energy and food security. During the meeting, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. Momen also signed a bilateral MoU on agricultural cooperation on behalf of Bangladesh.

In the energy sector, the MoU aims to expand and develop new and renewable energy sources and long-term conventional fuel sales and supply to power plants in Bangladesh. The objective of agriculture is to enhance cooperation in production, marketing, technology transfer through best mutual exchange in the field of agriculture.

Foreign Minister Momen is currently the President. He is on a trip to Jakarta with Sahabuddin.
