Mosque blast: 8 Titas officials and employees released on bail

Dhaka, September 22, 2020: A court has granted bail to eight officials and employees of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company in connection with the blast at Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Narayanganj. Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate granted them bail on Monday (September 21) at noon. They were released in the afternoon.

Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman said the CID produced eight Titas officers and employees in court after a two-day remand. When the accused's lawyer applied for bail in the court, the judge granted it till the next hearing. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 28.

The bailiffs are- Titas Fatullah area managing engineer Md. Sirajul Islam, Deputy Manager Mahamudur Rahman Rabbi, Assistant Engineer SM Hasan Shahriar, Assistant Engineer Manik Mia, Senior Supervisor Md. Munibur Rahman Chowdhury, senior developer Md. Ayub Ali, helper Md. Hanif Mia and employee Md. Ismail Pradhan.

On September 19, the CID arrested eight Titas officials and employees from different areas of Fatullah in a case filed by the police in connection with the mosque blast.

The blast took place at Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Paschim Talla area of ​​Sadar upazila on the night of September 4.

Forty people, including imams, muezzins, district administration officials, students, journalists and children, were burnt. They were rescued and admitted to Sheikh Hasina Plastic Surgery and Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. So far 33 people have died. Sub-Inspector (SI) of Fatullah Police Station Humayun Kabir filed a case against the unidentified persons on September 5. Later, CID was given the responsibility of investigating the case.
