Dhaka, 28 May 2023 : Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has said that irregularities and use of muscle power will be strictly suppressed in Barisal City Corporation elections.

He said that if a candidate's worker misbehaves in the election, that candidate will suffer. If anyone obstructs the election process, if anyone indulges in misdeeds against it, the Election Commission will be bound to take action against him and the person on whose behalf it has been done.

Habibul Awal said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the exchange meeting of the Election Commission with the rival candidates held at Barisal District Shilpakala Academy on Saturday (May 27) evening.

He said, many people have expressed concern that if someone else gives your vote or if someone does irregularities, then they should try to resist you first. Strict action will be taken against the presiding officer if he neglects his duty.

You have to be awake on polling day. Be careful if there is any irregularity, he said.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that the Election Commission will not bother about who is voting for whom, who is winning or losing. Voters are the subject of the Election Commission.

"If the common voters were prevented from going to the polling station, the voters were not allowed to exercise their right to vote freely, if there was a goon inside the polling station, our election would be questionable. Along with the election commission, the polling agents who will be inside the center must equally fulfill the responsibility of resisting the Mastans. He called for the practice and consolidation of democratic institutions," he said.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan (Retd.), Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam were special guests in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Amin Ul Ahsan.
