Dhaka, May 7: Hefazat leader Shahinur Pasha was arrested at midnight on Friday. Shahinur, arrested from Bankalapara in Sylhet, is the legal secretary of the defunct committee of Hefazat-e-Islam. He was in contact with London-based BNP leader Tarique Rahman, law enforcement officials said.

They demanded that Shahinur Pasha carry out many anti-government activities in the country by keeping contact and good relations with Tarique Rahman. He was also aided and abetted by the recent attack on a minority village in Shalla, Sunamganj, law enforcement said.

Sources in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police said Shahinur Pasha was one of the direct instigators of the recent violent movement of Hefazat-e-Islam across the country.

Besides, this Hefazat leader used to play a leading role in the implementation of anarchy and sabotage movement in the country under the direction of various anti-government parties including Tarique Rahman.

It is also learned that the CID has found evidence of his help and provocation in the attack on a minority village in Shalla, Sunamganj. Hefazat also used to provide legal assistance to various anti-government groups including Hefazat and bring them back to the field for violent movement.

Senior CID ASP (Media) Jisanul Haque Jisan told Dhaka Post that a CID team arrested Shahinur Pasha from Sylhet around 12:30 am on Friday (May 7). He has recently been shown arrested in a case filed against Hefazat's violent movement.
