National Mourning Day observed by remembering Bangabandhu

Dhaka, August 16: The 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of freedom, the commander-in-chief of the liberation war, and the father of the nation, and national mourning day was celebrated on Tuesday across the country, including the capital Dhaka. There was a strong demand among the people who came to pay their respects to Bangabandhu on the day of mourning, to form an inquiry commission to arrest the conspirators and conspirators behind the murder of Bangabandhu and his family and bring them to justice.

There was an atmosphere of mourning in various programmes across the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu's dream of establishing a non-communal democratic Bangladesh and a hunger- and poverty-free Sonar Bangla was the voice of the people.

On the early night of August 15, 1975, some misguided members of the army killed Bangabandhu and his family at his residence in Dhanmondi. The assassins not only killed Bangabandhu, Bangabandhu's wife Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, Bangabandhu's children Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and child Sheikh Russell, along with daughter-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rozi Jamal, lost their lives one by one.

Apart from the capital, the diplomatic missions of Bangladesh across the country and outside the country observed the day of mourning through various programs including floral tributes to the portrait of Bangabandhu.

On the occasion of Mourning Day, Qur'an recitation, Bangabandhu's March 7 speech broadcast, wreath laying at Bangabandhu's tomb and portrait, holding black badge, painting competition, Milad Mahfil, blood donation program, discussion meeting, photo exhibition and distribution of food among the needy.

On the occasion of Bangabandhu's martyrdom anniversary and National Day of Mourning, 100 times recitation of Quran and special prayers were held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The Islamic Foundation organizes Quran Khatam and special prayers. After reciting the Quran, a special prayer is offered for the souls of the father of the nation and the martyred members of his family.

Meanwhile, as part of the nationwide special prayer program at various places of worship including temples, pagodas, churches, centrally on August 15 at first hour (12:01 PM) at Mirpur Baptist Church (3/7-A Senpara, Parvata, Mirpur-10) candle lighting and special prayers, morning. The Christian community organized a special prayer at Tejgaon Holy Rosary Church at 9 am, the Buddhist community organized a prayer meeting at the International Buddhist Vihar in Merul Badda in the capital at 10 am and the Hindu community organized a prayer meeting at Dhakeshwari National Temple at 11:30 am.
