Dhaka, 9 June 2023 : A mural in India's new parliament building has featured Bangladesh along with several other countries on the map of 'Akhand Bharat'.

In view of this, the Bangladesh Mission in Delhi seeks an explanation from the Indian authorities. In response, New Delhi said the mural was erected to show the extent of Emperor Ashoka's kingdom.

Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave this information in response to a question from journalists at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

The spokeswoman said the mural was installed as a symbol of the extent of Emperor Ashoka's kingdom and the accountability and human development system led by Emperor Ashoka, from what we learned from the Indian authorities.

Rafiqul Alam said, "The main idea of installing this mural was historical ancient India. Specifically, portraying the reign of Emperor Ashoka. The mural, we are told, depicts Ashoka's empire, which has been promoted in some media as 'Akhand Bharat'."

Meanwhile, on June 5, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam said that Dhaka has instructed the Bangladesh mission in Delhi to contact the country's foreign ministry to get India's official explanation on 'Akhand Bharat'.

Recently, a map of 'Akhand Bharat' has been painted through a mural in the new parliament building of India. That unbroken India includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
