New Deputy Speaker to take oath on Sunday

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 26: The name of the new Deputy Speaker has not been announced but the date of swearing-in has been fixed. The new Deputy Speaker will take oath on Sunday (August 28).

This information is known from the letter signed by Shaukat Akbar, Senior Assistant Secretary, Legislative Support Wing, Parliament Secretariat, on Thursday (August 25).

It is said in the letter that the swearing-in of the newly elected Deputy Speaker of the 11th National Parliament will be held on that day (Sunday) at 7 pm at the 7th level of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan in the President's Chamber.

The post of Deputy Speaker has fallen vacant due to the death of veteran politician Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah. The Gaibandha-5 seat also fell vacant due to the death of seven-time Member of Parliament Fazle Rabbi. Discussions are going on about the new arrivals in these two places.

According to sources, some names are being discussed in the inner circles of politics for the post of Deputy Speaker. They are: Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs, Vice President Abdus Shahid, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimated Accounts, Advocate Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Relief and Disaster Management Ministry. President Captain (retd.) AB Tajul Islam.

It is known that among these four people, the former State Minister for Home Affairs, Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, is ahead in the discussion for the post of Deputy Speaker. Several sources close to Pabna-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Tuku have already given a green signal in this regard.
