Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 31: The engine of an Indian stone-laden truck broke down on the railway line at the Hili border in Dinajpur. Eighty-four passengers of India's New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka bound 'Mitali Express' train narrowly escaped from a major accident.

The accident took place on the railway line at the Zero Point Gate of Hili border last night (October 30) around 5 pm.

It is learned that when the truck broke down around 5 pm, the point man of the station went to stop the train with a red flag. There, with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the 'Mitali Express' train was stopped with a red flag signal. Eighty-four passengers on the train escaped an accident.

Hili railway gatekeeper Sujan said, "Like every day at around 4:30 pm, the 'Mitali Express' train left Hili Cross for Dhaka. I stayed at the zero-point gate to clear the train. At that time, the goods truck broke down on the line. 'Mitali Express' left from neighbouring station for Hili. At that time I was able to stop the train by standing on the railway track with the help of BGB with red flag."

In this regard, Kazi Ohiduzzaman, the duty driver of the Mitali Express train, said that the train was running at a high speed. Suddenly, I saw two people standing in front of me with a red flag. I tried to stop the train after seeing the red flag. Later the train was stopped. But if the train was not stopped, a major accident could have happened.

Hili Railway Station Master Tapan Kumar Chakraborty said that the Mithali Express train leaving from Jalpaiguri in India for Dhaka, the moment before entering the Hili area, the stone-laden truck broke down on the line. At that time, the train was stopped with a red flag signal, but after about 20 minutes, the train movement was normal.
