No fear of terrorist attack on Martyrs' Day: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka, February 20: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said that there is no threat of terrorist attack on Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. He said, so far we do not have any specific information on this matter.

He said this in response to a question from journalists about the overall security measures taken on the occasion of Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day at Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday (February 19).

DMP Commissioner said that there is no threat of terrorist attacks after the robbery of two militants from the court. Besides, 12 people involved in this incident have been arrested. Only those two have not been arrested yet. Our team is conducting operations to arrest them.

Regarding the overall security at Shaheed Minar, he said, we are bringing the entire area from Palashi to Doel Chatwar under CCTV cameras for security. The entire area will be monitored by CCTV cameras from the police control room. People coming to Shaheed Minar will be searched through our archway. Do not bring any bags or items, we will not allow them inside.

DMP Commissioner said, to pay respect to the martyrs, it has been divided into two parts. First, the president and prime minister along with cabinet members and diplomats will pay their respects. It will then be opened to the general public. General public will enter through palashi and leave through Doyal Square. That is, enter through one side and exit through the other.

He also said that the President and the Prime Minister will come to Shaheed Minar in an open environment after Corona. People from all walks of life of the capital will come to Shaheed Minar, we have taken maximum measures for security. The university administration is also supporting us.

Khandkar Ghulam Farooq said security measures have been taken in three parts. The security forces will work on the 20th from 6 am to 6 pm, on the 21st from 6 am to 6 pm and from 6 pm to 6 am the next day.
