Dhaka, June 17: Days after he was arrested, court has denied bail to former officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain, media reports said.

He was later sent to jail.

He has been jailed on charges of illegally recording a sex assault victim.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain passed the order after Sonagazi police produced Moazzem before his court in the case filed under Digital Security Act, reported The Daily Star.

The court has also fixed June 30 for indictment hearing in this case.

Moazzem was apprehended near the High Court around 3pm on Sunday,  Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar of the DMP’s Ramna Division told bdnews24 news portal.

The arrested person was taken to  Shahbagh Police Station.

Moazzem was in charge of the Sonagazi Police Station when Nusrat pressed charges of sexual harrassment against her madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula in March, recording her statement on his mobile phone, reported the Bangladesh-based news portal.

A tribunal on May 27 ha issued an arrest warrant against Moazzem Hossain.

The arrest warrant was issued against him in a case filed under Digital Security Act.

On April 15, the case was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque allegedly for recording the statement of Nusrat, a victim of sexual harassment, on camera without her consent and circulating the clip on social media, reported The Daily Star.

According to the probe report, the former OC himself had recorded the video on camera and later passed the footage to someone else, reported the news paper.

Nusrat was a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni’s Sonagazi upazila.
