Dhaka, Fen 21: Stating that communalism is currently the only obstacle in the country's progress, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, "The poison tree of communalism which has spread its branches under the leadership of BNP, we will uproot that poison tree under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. That is our commitment.”

He said this while talking to reporters after paying homage at Central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday (February 21) morning.

Obaidul Quader said, “February 11 is the foundation of independent Bangladesh. The foundation of Bangladesh was established through the language movement of February 12 under the leadership of Bangabandhu. After crossing various milestones in the independence struggle, Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech gave direction to the independence nationalism of the 1970s. We are language warriors first. Then in 1971 we are brave freedom fighters.”

"The victory of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971, the development prosperity of Bangladesh today is a wonder all over the world," he added.

Under the leadership of Obaidul Quader, Awami League leaders paid deep respect to language martyrs on Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day in the morning. The leaders and activists of the party offered wreaths and paid tributes at Azimpur language martyrs' graves and Central Shaheed Minar along with Prabhatferi wearing black badges from the south gate of the capital's New Market.
