OC Pradeep OC Pradeep's wife surrenders, sent to jail
Dhaka, May 23: Chumki Karan, wife of sacked Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das, has surrendered before the court. She surrendered in the court of Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Munshi Abdul Majid on Monday (May 23) morning and sought bail.
Following the hearing, the judge rejected her request and ordered that she be sent to prison. Besides, the investigating officer of the case, ACC Chittagong Assistant Director Riaz Uddin, testified in the court on the same day.
According to court sources, ACC official Riaz Uddin filed the case on August 23, 2020. In the case, Pradeep and his wife Chumki Karan were accused of acquiring illegal assets worth around Tk 4 crore.
Of this, Tk 39,505,635 was obtained through 'OC Pradeep' bribery and assets worth Tk 13,13,175 were concealed, the case alleges. Following the investigation, on July 26 last year, Md. Riaz Uddin filed a chargesheet in the case.
The complaint was heard on September 1. At noon on June 29, the court of Chittagong Senior Special Judge and Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman assigned Cox's Bazar and Chittagong Deputy Commissioners to look after the illicit assets of Pradeep Kumar Das.
Earlier, on December 15 last year, the court had framed charges against Pradeep Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karan in a case of illegal acquisition of wealth. So far, 24 people have testified in the case.
