Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 31 August 2023: Even on the last day of the month of mourning, mourners thronged the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj to pay their respects.

On Thursday morning, mourners started paying tributes on Bangabandhu's 48th martyrdom anniversary and National Day of Mourning by laying flowers on the altar of Bangandhu's mausoleum. As the day progresses, the crowd of people of different age groups increases.

The gathering of mourners at Bangabandhu Samadhi was the highest throughout the month of August this year. From the first day of August, the mourners poured into Bangabandhu's mausoleum. It continues till the last day i.e. 31 August. Mourners came to Tungipara and paid tribute to the mournful August by laying flowers on the altar of Bangabandhu's mausoleum.

In the mournful August, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, members of the Council of Ministers, members of parliament, secretaries, heads of various departments, forces and institutions paid their respects at Bangabandhu's tomb in Tungipara. Apart from this, political, social, cultural, labor and professional organizations paid tribute to Bangabandhu's mausoleum for a month.

Md. Nurul Islam of Bangabandhu Mausoleum said, the assassins killed Bangabandhu along with his family on August 15. On August 16, Bangabandhu was buried in Tungipara next to the graves of his parents. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex built in Tungipara on January 10, 2001.

The official said that thousands of people from far and wide come every day to visit Bangabandhu's grave. This year, during the month of mourning, the largest number of people gathered in Tungipara. They paid their respects at Bangabandhu's tomb.

Maulana Nawab Ali, the front imam of the masjid in the mausoleum complex, said that an average of 100 organizations paid homage to Bangabandhu's tomb every day this month. Reciting Fateha, Bangabandhu and the martyrs of August 15 prayed for forgiveness.

Tungipara Upazila Awami League General Secretary Md. Babul Sheikh said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is our eternal source of inspiration. Assassins killed him and his family on August 15, 1975. Bangabandhu returned to his beloved birthplace of Tungipara with his frozen deathless body. His mausoleum is now the immortal mausoleum of the Bengali nation. Most people paid their respects to the beloved leader during this year's mourning month.
