Dhaka, December 13: A train derailed on the Joydebpur-Mymensingh route near Bhawal Railway Station in Gazipur. One passenger was killed and at least 10 others were injured.

The incident took place on Wednesday (December 13) at around 4:15 am when the Mohanganj Express derailed. Since then, the Dhaka-Mymensingh rail communication has been suspended.

The deceased was identified as Aslam Hossain, 35, of Rawha village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director (DAD) Abdullah Al Arefin confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said the miscreants cut the railway line with gas-cutters at some point in the night. As soon as the train left from Mohanganj reached the Bankharia Chilai Bridge in Gazipur, seven bogies, including the engine, fell into the low ground beside the railway line.

Ten people were injured in the incident. A gas cylinder was recovered from a bush near the railway track, he said.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abul Fateh Md. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kazi Shafiqul Alam and senior officials of the railway and fire service visited the spot.

The incident took place amid the ongoing blockade program of BNP and like-minded parties across the country. Earlier yesterday, miscreants set fire to passenger buses in several places in the capital Dhaka.
