Dhaka, May 8: Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that if the health rules are not followed, the situation in the country will be worse than in India. So the health rules must be obeyed. The minister made the remarks while distributing food aid among the needy in Eid-ul-Fitr and pandemic at Manikganj Shuvro Center on Friday (May 7) afternoon.

He said the country had the coronavirus under control. However, it has increased again.

Earlier, the country had 2,000 beds for the treatment of the coronavirus patients. Now, Dhaka alone has 8,000 beds, while there are 13,000 Covid dedicated beds across Bangladesh.

In the last one year, 130 hospitals across the country have been provided with central oxygen.

Previously, there was only one lab in the country for coronavirus testing. Covid samples are currently being tested in 400 labs in the country.

Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous presided over the distribution of food aid to 2,000 families, while Superintendent of Police Rifat Rahman Shamim, District Council Chairman and District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin, District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Abdus Salam and others spoke.

The minister further said, "I am apprehensive about the way people are crowding the market with children ahead of Eid. The rate at which people are going to the ferry terminal is not following the health rules in any way. Thousands of people are crossing in one ferry instead of one hundred. Everyone should keep an eye so that the country is not harmed by negligence."
