Over 16 crore vaccine doses administered in Bangladesh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 4: Since the inauguration of the vaccination progamme in the country to tackle Covid-19, 16 crore 25 lakh 48 thousand 352 doses (including first and second doses) have been administered.

The information was given by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (February 3). So far, 9 crore 86 lakh 34 thousand 775 people have taken the first dose and 6 crore 39 lakh 13 thousand 577 people have taken the second dose. These include the Oxford AstraZeneca, the Chinese-made Synoform, the Synovac, Pfizer and Modern vaccines.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the vaccination drive at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital on January 27 last year. She inaugurated the vaccination programme by virtually joining the event from Ganobhaban. After that, mass vaccination had started from February 7.

According to the DGHS, 9 lakh 89 thousand 45 doses of vaccine were administered across the country on Thursday. Vaccination of 12 to 17 years old students started in Bangladesh by jabbing two class-9 students of Motijheel Ideal School in the capital on November 1. So far, one crore 41 lakh 26 thousand 589 school students have received the first dose of vaccine, and the second dose was administered to 25 lakh 58 thousand 847 students.
