Over 5,000 tourists stranded as landslide hits Sajek

Dhaka, October 6: A landslide has stopped traffic in Sajek Union of Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati. The landslide occurred on Tuesday (October 4) night due to heavy rain. Around 5,000 tourists are stuck in hundreds of vehicles on both sides of the road.

Locals said that it suddenly rained heavily at night. In the Nandaram area, landslides fell on the main road. Traffic stopped as a result.

Sajek Cottage Owners Association President Suporn Dev Burman said that there are about 200 vehicles in Sajek area. which arrived yesterday. Many people were supposed to leave this morning but now everyone is stuck as traffic is stopped. We have 112 cottages here. All together can accommodate about 4 thousand tourists.

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumna Akhtar said that about 2,000 tourists are stuck in Sajek area and about 3,000 more tourists are stuck to enter. Road cleaning work has already started. Army and locals continue to work. Hope to be able to normalize work traffic soon.
