Dhaka, July 3: Seven coronavirus patients died at Bogra's Corona Specialized Mohammad Ali Hospital with 13 hours between Thursday evening and Friday morning. They died of due to lack of oxygen supply, triggered by a crisis of high flow nasal cannula at the hospital.

Allegedly, the condition of 10 more patients below the level of oxygen saturation (concentrated oxygen in the blood) is alarming. The central oxygen supply unit has only two canola but one is damaged.

However, the caretaker of the hospital, Dr. Nuruzzaman Sanchay, said that despite the crisis of valuable high-flow nasal canola in the central oxygen supply unit here, no one died due to lack of oxygen. A patient is getting 15 liters of oxygen per minute. The dead are all elderly, suffering from complex diseases including diabetes. They were also brought to the hospital in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as Ali Zahid, 65, of Sultanganjpara in Bogra. Mira Begum (35) and Abdul Hannan (65) of Shibganj upazila; Tuku Mandal of Sariakandi (65); Rabeya Begum (60) of Panchbibir in Joypurhat; Abdul Matin Chowdhury (82) of Badalgachhi, Naogaon; And Lily Chowdhury (55) of Sirajganj Sadar.

According to reliable sources, the 250-bed Bogra Mohammad Ali Hospital has a capacity of 200 patients. As many as 223 people were under treatment till 8 am on Friday. The activities of the Central Oxygen Supply Unit started here last March. Although at least 20 high-flow nasal canolas are needed to supply oxygen to dying patients, there are only two. One of them is useless.

The caretaker of the hospital said that letters have been sent to the Ministry of Health asking for allocation of high flow nasal canola, but the allocation has not been matched yet.

Bogra Civil Surgeon. Gausul Azim Chowdhury said a total of 11 people had died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours till noon on Friday. At that time 100 people were infected.

He said the Indian Delta variant was highly contagious. Due to this the number of deaths and infections is increasing. To protect against coronavirus, everyone must follow strict hygiene rules.
