Pallabi murder: Former MP Awal's hitman Manik killed in gunfight with RAB

Dhaka, May 21: Former lawmaker M A Awal's hitman has been killed in a gunfight with RAB officials in Mirpur's Eastern Housing area. The deceased has been identified as Md. Manik (32).

Manik was the fifth accused in the case of brutally murder of businessman Shahin Uddin in Pallabi on May 16. In a video, he is seen brutally stabbing the victim.

RAB said that Shahin Uddin was killed on the orders of MA Awal. The job was carried out by Sumon, a local gang leader. Awal paid money to have Shahin killed.

On Friday (May 21) morning, RAB-4 Commander (CO) Additional DIG Md. Mozammel Haque said that on Thursday (May 20) night, RAB members went to the Eastern Housing area of ​​Mirpur on the basis of secret information. There were several accused involved in the murder of Shahin Uddin. Sensing the presence of the RAB, they started firing. RAB members also fired in self-defense. One man was shot and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Later, the deceased was identified as Manik, the fifth accused in the Pallabi murder case.

Earlier on May 20, RAB arrested three people, including former MP Awal.

DB and police have arrested four people.

Khandaker Al Moin, director of the media wing of the RAB, said Shahin Uddin was killed on the orders of MP Awal and under the leadership of Sumon over a land dispute. Awal paid the killers for the murder. He met with the killers at his Kalabagan office and ordered the killing.

The case is currently being investigated by the Mirpur Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police.
