Dhaka, May 8: Ten patients returning from India have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital. They were admitted to two wards of the hospital around 3 am on Friday (May 7).

A police officer on duty at CMC Hospital said that after treatment, several patients from India came to Bangladesh through Benapole border on May 4. The government instructed all of them to stay in quarantine at their respective district hospitals. Following this, 10 people came to CMC Hospital in Chittagong to observe quarantine.

He further said that on the advice of the doctor on duty, seven of them were admitted to the cabin of Ward No. 29. The other three were admitted to Medicine Ward No. 16 due to illness.

According to hospital sources, the patients admitted to Ward No. 16 are Zakaria, 34, son of Elias, a resident of Chandanaish Upazila; Rahima Begum, 46, daughter of Yusuf, a resident of Fatikchhari upazila; And Parveen Akhter, 41, wife of Iqbal Ahmed, a resident of Karnafuli upazila.

At the same time, the patients admitted in quarantine in ward 29 of the hospital are: Rezaul Karim Raju, 24, son of Fazal Karim, a resident of Patiya; Hasmat Ara Begum, 52, daughter of Yusuf, a resident of Chandanaish; Ayesha Sultana, 24, daughter of Fazal Quader, a resident of the same upazila; Iqbal Hossain, 24, son of Yusuf, a resident of Fatikchhari; Ramzan Ali, 21, son of Zahur, a resident of the same upazila; Anisur Rahman, son of late Rashid Ali, a resident of Karnafuli police station; Fahmida Yasmin, 19, daughter of Iqbal Ahmed, a resident of the same upazila.

Meanwhile, the admission of these India-returnee patients has created a kind of panic in the entire hospital area.

It is learned that a few days ago, a group of teachers, led by the Vice Chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) tested the type of coronavirus in Chittagong. These tests match the coronavirus type of India with the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia. But no type of the Indian variant was found in the test. The people of Chittagong got a little relief with this. But this time the fear of spreading of the new Indian variant is working among the people of Chittagong.

CVASU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gautam Buddha Das said that the type of Indian coronavirus is several times stronger than the three countries found in Chittagong. So we should be careful about the entry of the Indian variant.
