Dhaka, May 29: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lauded peacekeepers, stating that the latter are brightening the country's image and making the nation proud.

"We are the country that sends the highest number of peacekeepers. It is a matter of pride. Peacekeepers are working to maintain world peace. Wherever you go, you are brightening the face of Bangladesh," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while joining the celebrations of 'International United Nations Peacekeepers Day-2021' via video conference on Saturday (May 29).

She said, "You are doing the hard work of making others your own. I know you face trouble, you are doing your duty in a hostile environment. It's a challenge," she said.

"Our peacekeepers are working successfully in the most conflict-ridden, complex places. Thank you for that. I'm proud of you."

She called upon the peacekeepers serving in different countries of the world to perform their duties with professionalism, dedication and sincerity.

Addressing the peacekeepers, the Prime Minister said, "You will keep the flag of Bangladesh high in the world. Perform duties with professionalism, dedication and sincerity. When that equipment is needed, I will arrange it."

"Covid-19 is causing great suffering to people all over the world. At this time you have to deal with the situation patiently and calmly. You have to put your trust in God," the Prime Minister said.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We are providing proper training to those who are going for peacekeeping. We are also providing all kinds of facilities and security. We are also making arrangements to provide whatever is needed to meet the challenges immediately. Whenever I visit a foreign country, the minister and officials praise our peacekeepers. I feel proud."

Praising women, she said, "I am very proud of women pilots. Now girls everywhere have a better chance."

The Prime Minister said, "Our job is to develop the economy of the country, alleviate poverty, create education, health care and employment for present and future generations. We are doing that."
