Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 11: Finally the wait is over. The much-awaited brave freedom fighter AKM Nasim Osman 3rd Shitalakkhya Bridge has been inaugurated over the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this bridge through video conference from her office on Monday (October 10) afternoon. Since the inauguration of the bridge, the residents of the two banks of Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj are floating in the tide of joy.

Local sources say Shitalakkhya river flows between Narayanganj headquarters and port. Although ferries were running to Hajiganj-Nabiganj point to cross this river, the bridge was regretted for a long time. Shitalakkhya river separates Bandar Upazila and Sonargaon Upazila from the district headquarters. These two upazilas were not directly connected with the district headquarters by road.

Kanchpur Bridge (Shitlakshya-1 bridge) had to be used to go from the two upazilas to Sadar. For this, a distance of 3-5 km on the river had to be traveled by boat and about 30 km by road. No need to go around from now on. The river can be crossed in a few minutes. Thousands of people attended the much-awaited bridge inauguration ceremony. Immediately after the inauguration, people traveled from one end to the other without any hindrance.

Narayanganj District Commissioner (DC) Manjurul Hafiz said that as a result of this bridge, residents of eight districts including Benapole, the country's largest land port, will be able to travel to Chittagong without entering Dhaka city through the Padma Bridge. Vehicles and passengers from the South-Western region currently travel to Chittagong via the Jatrabari-Postgola Bridge or the Chashadha-Signboard route. Now you can easily go to Chittagong avoiding the traffic jam through Shitalakkhya Bridge.

Eighteen districts of the country are being connected to the bridge. Through this, it is expected that new doors of possibilities will be opened for the large population of the southwestern region of the country. The merged districts are Narail, Gopalganj, Khulna, Magura, Satkhira, Chuadanga, Jessore, Jhenaidah, Khulna, Bagerhat, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Barisal, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Barguna, and Jhalkathi. People will get the maximum benefit from Padma Bridge if a new road communication system is built with the bridge.
