Dhaka, Jan 1: Greeting the countrymen on the occasion of the Christian New Year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Today we are going to leave behind the time and emerge in the light of the new day, all the achievements of that time will serve as a strong platform for the journey ahead." She said this in a message given on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said, "In the new year, may the bonds of harmony, amity and brotherhood among people become stronger, may all crises be removed, may all narrowness be overcome and may everyone's lives be filled with unending happiness, peace and prosperity."

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister urged people to dedicate themselves to the overall welfare of the people, fight terrorism and maintain the continuity of democracy and development to build the non-communal 'Golden Bangladesh' of the father of the nation's dream.

Referring to the year 2023 as a golden era of Bangladesh's infrastructure development, the Prime Minister said, "On October 10, 2023, the Padma Setu rail link was auspiciously inaugurated. After the launch of metro rail on Uttara-Agargaon route on December 28, 2022, the metro rail service has been extended to Motijheel on November 4, 2023."

Stating that the work of all the infrastructure development projects including mega and medium are also progressing at full speed, she said, "The first elevated expressway was launched in Dhaka on September 2. On October 5, fuel was supplied to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. As a result, Bangladesh has become the third nuclear energy user country in South Asia. The third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was inaugurated on October 7 and 150 bridges and 14 overpasses in 39 districts of the country were inaugurated on October 19. On October 28, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong was opened for traffic for the first time in South Asia. Dhaka-Cox's Bazar direct rail has been launched with the inauguration of the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway on November 11."

Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League government always works according to election promises. Since the 2008 election, three consecutive rounds of popular vote victory, the last 15 years have seen unprecedented progress in every aspect of socio-economic development. Like other countries in the world, the economy of Bangladesh also slowed down a bit due to the corona virus epidemic. The Ukraine-Russia war and economic sanctions and counter-sanctions have caused suffering for innocent people around the world. In the meantime, I have called for an end to Israel's aggression in Gaza. We don't want war, we want peace.
