PM directs to find a solution based on nature in order to achieve sustainable development

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 6: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the concerned authorities to find a solution based on nature to achieve sustainable development while protecting the environment.

She said, "Development will never be sustainable without coordination with the environment. So, we have to move towards nature-based solutions with this in mind."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the inaugural function of 'World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2022' and 'National Tree Planting Campaign and Tree Fair 2022' as the chief guest on Sunday.

She was virtually involved in the main event organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital via video conference from Ganobhavan.

Sheikh Hasina said the country has to go on the path of development, but it has to follow the policy of nature-based solution. It is urgently needed. She said that whenever the government takes any development programme, there is a condition in every project, that is, if any tree is cut in this development project, five times more trees should be planted there.

Mentioning that her government has been able to increase the forest cover of the country from 11 percent to 22.5 percent today, she said that the government is setting up 100 economic zones across the country to prevent arbitrary establishment of mills and factories to protect cultivable land.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also emphasized on working for the overall development of the country as well as increasing the forest cover of the country to protect the environment and environment in establishing a developed and prosperous golden Bangladesh for the next generation.

"Apart from increasing our forest cover, we also need to work for overall development. We have to take various steps keeping this in view. Because, we have to sustain the country for the next generation," she said.

The Prime Minister said, "We have to do a lot of social forestry work. It benefits such poor people. Here they not only plant trees but also ensure their safety. So now 70 percent dividend is being paid. So these tasks need to be done more extensively."
