Dhaka, Jan 29: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the international community to repatriate the Rohingyas to their homeland Myanmar and take measures to ensure their dignified life there.

She said, "The world should find a way to solve the Rohingya crisis, so that they can go back to their homeland and live a good life there."

She said this during a courtesy meeting with a UK cross-party parliamentary delegation led by Birendra Sharma MP, Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh Affairs (APPG) and Chair of the APPG on Indo-British Affairs, at Ganabhaban on Sunday. After the meeting, Prime Minister's speechwriter M. Nazrul Islam briefed the journalists.

This is the first visit of the UK parliamentary party after the general election was held in Bangladesh on January 7. During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh had given shelter to the Rohingyas in 2017 after their mass exodus in the face of inhuman torture.

The Prime Minister also said that although Myanmar has agreed to take back its citizens, no action has been taken to this end despite the passage of six years. The delegation is scheduled to leave for London on January 31.
