PM Hasina to visit Maldives on Wednesday: Bangladesh to present 13 military vehicles

Own representative, Dhaka, December 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leaving for Maldives on a three-day state visit. During the visit, 13 military vehicles will be gifted to the Maldives Defense Department by the Bangladesh Army. Besides, a memorandum of understanding will be signed during the Prime Minister's visit on a number of issues including sports and health. Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said this at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday (December 19).

Highlighting the Prime Minister's schedule, the Foreign Minister said that the Prime Minister will land in Male on a special flight on December 22 and will be received at the airport by the Maldivian State Minister for Foreign Affairs. On the morning of December 23, the country's President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will formally welcome the Prime Minister, who will then be given a guard of honor. After receiving the Guard of Honor, the Prime Minister will proceed to the Presidential Palace. A bilateral meeting between the President of Maldives and the Prime Minister will be held at that venue. At the end of the meeting, a number of agreements/memoranda of understanding on health, education, dual taxation, youth and sports may be signed between the two countries.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President, Speaker and Chief Justice of Maldives. The Prime Minister is also expected to address the Maldivian Parliament.

Dr. Momen said the Prime Minister would also exchange virtual greetings with expatriate Bangladeshis working in the Maldives. In addition, at the request of the Maldivian Defense Ministry, 13 military vehicles provided by the Bangladesh Army will be handed over to the Maldivian Defense Ministry as a token of friendship.

At the end of the formalities, a joint statement will be issued between the two countries and the two leaders will jointly present their programs to the local media in the Maldives.
