Disabled PM Hasina urges people to work together for overall development of the disabled
Dhaka, December 3: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the people of all walks of life, all concerned voluntary organizations and local and foreign organizations to work together for the overall development of the disabled.
She said that people with disabilities should be involved in all socio-economic activities. "With the joint efforts of all, we will be able to build the hunger and poverty free 'Golden Bangladesh' that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt of, Insha Allah."
The Prime Minister made the call in a message on the occasion of the 29th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 22nd National Day of Persons with Disabilities-2020.
She said she was happy to know that the 29th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 22nd National Day of Persons with Disabilities were being observed.
On this occasion, Sheikh Hasina extended her best wishes to all the disabled people of the country, their families and all those involved in improving the living standards of the disabled.
She also remarked that the theme of this year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 'Involve people with disabilities in the context of Covid-19, build a new and sustainable world' has become very timely and appropriate.
The Prime Minister said the disabled are not a burden of the nation, but an asset. The government is committed to building a prosperous nation by improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities by involving them in various activities as an integral part of society. To this end, the government is implementing various development plans to ensure equal rights of the disabled, empowerment, education, training, employment, disability-friendly public building.
Sheikh Hasina said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has ensured equal rights of all people of the state including persons with disabilities in the constitution of Bangladesh. To this end, during the four-term rule of the Awami League government, various laws / rules / policies / action plans have been formulated to ensure the constitutional rights of the disabled people of this country.
These include the Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2013; Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Act, 2013; Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act, 2019.
She said that the formulation of integrated special education policy on disability, 2019 and national action plan on disability, 2019 is one of them.
