Dhaka, December 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the International Fleet Review (IFR) at Inani in Cox's Bazar. The IFR started on Wednesday with the participation of navies and maritime organizations of 28 countries including Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Navy is organizing the IFR on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence. This is the first IFR in the country with the participation of so many countries including USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Korea, Indonesia, Turkey, Netherlands and host Bangladesh.

IFR-2022 will serve as an ideal platform for navies of various countries to showcase their capabilities, naval diplomacy, goodwill and cooperation in the international arena. Naval HQ hopes that IFR will be a great opportunity for Bangladesh in general and Bangladesh Navy in particular as it will create opportunities for communication with world navies in Bangladesh waters and development of tourism and infrastructure in coastal areas of the country.

The Prime Minister witnessed the colorful parade of Bangladesh Navy and crews of foreign ships, free-fall jump from space by SEAL commandos, various exercises and operational display of the fleet. She unveiled the cover of a publication titled 'Journey of Bangabandhu and Navy in 50 Years'. The Prime Minister also inaugurated a Navy jetty on the beach.

Naval Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal delivered the welcome address on the occasion.

An audio-visual presentation highlighting the progress of the Bangladesh Navy since the country's independence was also screened at the event.
