Dhaka, February 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 2.34 km long Kalshi flyover at Mirpur in the capital. She also inaugurated the 3.70 km road from ECB Square to Kalshi, which has been upgraded and widened from four lanes to six lanes.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the flyover and the road by unveiling a plaque. The flyover will further improve connectivity between Mirpur, DOHS, Pallavi, Kalshi, Mohakhali, Banani, Uttara and the airport. It will take 15 minutes to reach Mirpur from the airport.

ECNEC approved the project on January 9, 2018, under which it gave permission to widen the 3.70 km road from ECB Square to Kalshi and construct a 2.34 km long flyover. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Bangladesh Army (24 Engineer Construction Brigade) implemented the project at a cost of around Tk 1,012 crore.

Construction of the project began in January 2018, with construction completed 4 months ahead of schedule in June 2023.

According to the project description, the flyover is shaped like the English letter 'Y'. In order to facilitate the travel of passengers on this road, the earlier four-lane roads have been converted into six lanes under the project. The main four-lane flyover is from ECB Square to Kalshi and Mirpur DOHS. The two-lane ramp will start from Kalshi Mor and go to Kalshi Road.

Under the project, one PC grider bridge, two foot over bridges, one public toilet, two police boxes, one 7.40 km RCC drain, one 1755 m RCC pipe drain, 3383 m communication cable, separate cycle lane, and six bus bays have been constructed.

Implementation of the project is expected to decongest Mirpur, DOHS, Pallabi, Kalshi, Mohakhali, Banani, Uttara, and Airport roads.
