Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 9: Bangladesh ranks eighth in the world in terms of success of vaccination activities. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been declared the Vaccination Champion from the Gavi Vaccine Alliance. Today, after a virtual meeting with the heads of other nations across the world, the Prime Minister will be rewarded for the success of the vaccination.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Zahid Maleque shared the information while speaking as the chief guest at an Iftar party organized by the district police at Manikganj police line on Friday (April 8) evening.

The minister said Covid-19 is under control in Bangladesh. For the past few days, no Covid-related fatality was reported in the country. The rate of infection has also decreased. Around 40 to 60 people are being detected across the country every day. The country's economy is thriving because Covid is under control. We are able to do business, trade and religion. Vaccination activities are being carried out successfully as well.

"As you know, 25 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country. About 95 percent of the target population has been vaccinated. Seventy-five percent of the country's population has been vaccinated. Those who have not taken the booster dose will get it quickly," he said.

The Health Minister further said that Bangladesh is in a good position. Unlike Sri Lanka, where there is no food, no medicine, no petrol, no movement. The government has collapsed. Bangladesh is in a good position under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. With the cooperation of all of you, we will take the country to a much better position.

The Iftar gathering was presided over by Superintendent of Police Mohammad Golam Azad Khan and was attended by MP AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Lafit and District Council Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Golam Mohiuddin.

Earlier, the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) presented the 'Vaccine Hero' award to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the UN headquarters in New York last September for Bangladesh's success in the vaccination programme.
