Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 31: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the party to move forward keeping in mind the ideals of the late leaders.

She said, "Since Awami League is a people's organization, many dedicated leaders and activists like Sajeda Chowdhury have taken the lead of this organization. I hope that our leaders will move forward keeping in mind the ideals of the late leaders, that is what I want."

She said this while participating in the discussion on the condolence motion brought on the late Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Deputy Leader of the Parliament, and Member of Parliament, Sheikh Anyi Rahman, in the 20th session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday (October 30).

When the Speaker proposed a condolence motion, the National Assembly unanimously accepted it. A minute's silence and prayer were followed. Hafez Ruhul Amin Madani led the prayers.

The Prime Minister said that Sajeda Chowdhury's contribution to Awami League cannot be forgotten. Worked to take the lead and move the team forward in extreme difficulties. Awami League had been hit repeatedly, during Pakistan's rule, during the liberation war. Sajeda Chowdhury worked for women empowerment. As she led the camp in the great liberation war of 1971, she also organized the freedom fighters and inquired about them.

Sheikh Hasina said that she has contributed to the freedom struggle. She has also contributed to our national life. After August 15, our Awami League leaders and workers were subjected to unspeakable torture. Sajeeda Chowdhury is also a victim. Ziaur Rahman arrested her. Ziaur Rahman arrested her and sent him to jail. Matia Chowdhury was also arrested. She was also sick. They were not given their division. They were put in jail like a normal prisoner. Sajeda Chowdhury was always at the forefront of every movement in this country. After her release from jail, she went to Delhi to meet me. I used to call her Fufu.

She said that Ziaur Rahman made a law that no one's name can be given in the registration of the party. But Sajeda Chowdhury was adamant about this. She had said, there is no party without Bangabandhu. Even within our group, some had ambivalence. But he was adamant about it. Ziaur Rahman wanted to erase the name of Bangabandhu, so he made this law.
