Poila Baishakh events must be completed by 2 pm

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 13: Keeping in mind the holy month of Ramadan and traffic jams, all the activities of this year's Bengali New Year (Poila Baishakh) celebrations will be completed before 2 pm and no one will be allowed to enter Ramna Park after 1 pm.

DMP Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said this at a media briefing on safety and traffic guidelines on the occasion of Poila Baishakh celebrations at Ramna.

Wishing the New Year in advance, the DMP Commissioner said, "We have not been able to celebrate the New Year and the Poila Baishakh due to the corona situation in the last two years. Celebrations will be limited this year as the situation has improved."

Regarding security arrangements, Shafiqul Islam said, "Adequate security measures have been taken for the New Year and the Poila Baishakh celebrations. There will be CCTV cameras in all areas centered on Ramna, Suhrawardy Udyan, TSC and Mangalshoyatra."

He said sweeping was being carried out with the help of DMP's Dog Squad and Bomb Disposal Unit at Ramna and surrounding areas and this activity will continue till the moment before the ceremony. A team of DMP and SWAT will monitor the situation from the watchtower.

There will be diversions in all the roads centered on Ramna, there will be police checkposts. He requested the esteemed citizens to assist the police on duty and cooperate with them at the check post to ensure their safety.

The DMP commissioner said a sufficient number of white-clad policemen would be deployed with the general public to prevent eve-teasing. Mentioning that no one will be able to enter the Mangal Procession from outside, he said that if anyone wants to enter, he will have to face strict police obstruction, and no one will be able to wear a mask in the Mangal Procession.
