Police-BNP chase, counter-chase, vandalism at Khulna railway station

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 23: BNP leaders and activists were chased by the police at the Khulna railway station. At that time, the activists threw bricks at the police and broke the glass of the station door.

The incident took place on Saturday (October 22) from morning to noon. It was seen at the railway station at 12 noon that a large number of policemen were stationed. BNP leaders and workers were protesting from the opposite position.

Khulna Railway Station Master Manik Chandra Sarkar said that they got into an argument due to a quarrel among themselves. At one point they broke the glass of the station. When the police were informed, they became more agitated.

Convener of Khulna Metropolitan BNP SM Shafiqul Alam Mana said, "Khulna residents have never seen such violence by the government and police over a rally. The leaders and activists are being stopped on the way, they are being detained. Those who came to the rally by train were attacked. The rally cannot be stopped like this."

He also said that the activists entered Khulna a day before the rally, ignoring hundreds of obstacles. They are still coming from far and wide. In the meantime, all the central leaders have reached Khulna.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Sonali Sen said, no one was stopped. The situation was brought under control with patience.
