Dhaka, Jan 3: President Md. Shahabuddin will cast his vote in the 12th national election today through postal ballot. He will cast his vote at Bangabhaban in the morning.

This information is known from the daily programme sent by the press wing of the President on Tuesday. It is said that President Md. Shahabuddin will vote in the national election through postal ballot on Wednesday. Voting in the national elections will be held through postal ballot at Bangabhaban at 11 am.

Apart from the President, three types of voters who are unable to go to the polling station can exercise their right to vote by mail (postal ballot). This provision has been introduced since the 9th National Parliament election.

Election Commission has launched a campaign to encourage postal ballot voting in this year's parliamentary elections. Chapter 10 of the National Parliament Elections Manual regarding postal ballot states that according to Article 27 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972, the following persons can exercise their right to vote in the postal ballot — 1. If a person is detained in any jail or any other legal custody in Bangladesh; 2. Bangladeshi voters living abroad; and 3. If the person is on electoral duty at a polling station other than the one in which he/she is entitled to vote.

The 12th National Parliament election will be held on January 7. The armed forces are entering the ground on Wednesday (January 3) to assist the local civil administration in order to conduct free, fair, impartial and peaceful elections.
