Prime Minister attends Police Week event

Dhaka, Jan 3: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the police week programme.

As soon as she reached the parade ground of Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital at 10 am on Tuesday (January 3), she was saluted and the national anthem was played at the same time.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun saluted the Prime Minister at the opening stage of the parade. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the parade in an open jeep.

The main theme of this year's police week is 'Bangabandhu's Bangladesh, the police are on the side of the people'. Various programmes of Police Week which started today will continue till January 8. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Police Week-2023 with an annual police parade at Rajarbagh Police Lines ground. She inspected and saluted the parade of various police contingents and flag bearers.

Khulna Range Superintendent of Police Kazi Moin Uddin led the annual police parade as captain. Thousands of police personnel will participate in the parade led by him. In 2022, 15 police personnel were awarded the 'Bangladesh Police Padak (BPM)' and 25 were awarded the 'President's Police Medal (PPM)' in recognition of bravery and heroic deeds.

Besides, 25 members were awarded 'Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM)-Seva' and 50 members were awarded 'President's Police Medal (PPM)-Seva' for their commendable contribution through solving important cases, crime control, efficiency, devotion, integrity and disciplined conduct. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the medals to the awardees.

Earlier, there was no Police Week in 2021 due to the pandemic. Then in 2022, even though it was Police Week, the Prime Minister was virtually involved as the chief guest.
