Prime Minister calls on United Nations Secretary General to take quick action to stop the war

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the United Nations to take special and effective measures to quickly end the Russia-Ukraine war.

She said, the sooner the war ends, the better for the people.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) on Saturday afternoon local time. He made this call at the time. At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. AK Abdul Momen briefed the journalists. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Masud Bin Momen, was present at the time.

The Prime Minister said in the meeting that the UN Secretary General can take special initiatives to end the ongoing war in Ukraine as soon as possible, "The countries that benefit from the war should help the countries that are suffering from its effects."

Sheikh Hasina also discussed the Rohingya issue with the UN Secretary General. He said, "The United Nations should take special steps so that the citizens of Myanmar can return to their own country." Referring to the action of the Bangladesh government regarding the transfer of 30,000 Rohingyas to Bhasanchar, the head of government requested the UN Secretary General to cooperate in transferring more Rohingyas there.

In the meeting, both the Prime Minister and the UN Secretary General agreed that the Rohingyas should return to their country soon, regardless of whether there is any change in the political arena in Myanmar.

In the meeting, Antonio Guterres praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her development, diplomacy and unprecedented success in fighting the coronavirus pandemic. He said, "Bangladesh's achievements are very encouraging."

The UN Secretary General said, 'They are proud of the leadership like Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has successfully dealt with the coronavirus situation. At the same time, he has taken Bangladesh further by dealing with the crisis due to the Ukraine-Russia war.
