Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 7 March 2024: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid deep respect to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the historic 7 March. At 7 am on Thursday, she paid tribute by placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital.

After placing the wreath, she stood in silence for a while, paying deep respect to the memory of this great leader, the architect of freedom. Later Awami League president Sheikh Hasina along with senior leaders of Awami League placed another wreath on Bangabandhu's portrait on behalf of the party. The Prime Minister then released a commemorative postage stamp, an inaugural envelope and a data card on the occasion of the historic March 7 at the Ganabhaban.

On March 7, 1971, Bangabandhu in his fiery and eloquent speech gave a rousing appeal to the people to fight against the Pakistani occupation forces to achieve the long-cherished independence.

On this day, at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan), Bangabandhu said in the declaration of independence to a gathering of ten lakh freedom-seeking people, "This time's struggle, our liberation struggle. This time's struggle is the struggle of freedom."

The historic March 7 speech of the Father of the Nation was included in the 'Memory of the World International Register' by UNESCO on October 30, 2017.
