Dhaka, October 17: The world is facing food security problems. Bangladesh should be kept free from this problem. That is why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the citizens to increase production.

She said that Bangladesh should be protected from the frequent disasters that occur all over the world. Try to produce more food from each location. Everyone who has land should try to produce something there.

"Bangladesh should be protected from the frequent disasters in the world. Try to produce more food from everyone's location. Everyone who has land should try to produce something," she said.

The Prime Minister urged this at a function organized on the occasion of World Food Day on Monday (October 17). She joined the function organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium through video conference from the government residence Gana Bhavan.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We have space in many public and private institutions. We focus on production in them. We are economical in food consumption. We produce whatever we can. Then there will be no famine in Bangladesh. Even if there is a famine in the world, Bangladesh can supply us with food. Now that must be done."

She said, "Besides, we have to save food. And the food that survives now, we have to preserve it properly. We are producing, but if we don't preserve it properly, it will be wasted unnecessarily. We have to look at that now."

Sheikh Hasina said, "Furthermore, to prevent famine, we have to focus on using all the products we import. We have to try how to increase their production. I think it will not be very difficult. We had a shortage of onions, now we are meeting the demand by producing onions."

Meanwhile, the head of government gave instructions to work towards self-sufficiency in oil crops.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder presided over the program organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Fisheries and Livestock Minister S M Rezaul Karim, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry Matia Chowdhury were special guests. Agriculture Secretary Md. Saidul Islam gave a welcome speech on the occasion.

The Ministry of Agriculture organized the program on October 17 on the occasion of World Food Day on October 16. A documentary on food was shown on the occasion. The theme of this year's World Food Day is "Leaving no one behind. Good production leads to better nutrition, safer environment and better life".
