Prime Minister Hasina visits Ajmer Sharif

Dhaka, September 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concluded her four-day visit to India with pilgrimage and prayers at Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah at Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan and is returning home tonight.

The Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the official news agency BSS, "The Prime Minister offered nafal prayers there and prayed for the development, prosperity and welfare of the country, the people and the Muslim Ummah."

He also said that the Prime Minister stayed there for some time. At this time she recited Fatiha and prayed. After that, Sheikh Hasina toured Ajmer Sharif.

On September 6, Nizamuddin started his India tour by visiting the Dargah of Auliya in New Delhi and praying there. She also prayed there. Earlier, the Bangladesh Prime Minister arrived at New Delhi's Palam Airport on September 5. Sheikh Hasina was accorded a red carpet welcome there.

On the first day of her visit to India, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met her in the conference room of the Bangladesh Prime Minister's suite at the Maurya Hotel.

On the second day of her visit on September 6, Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral and private meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. Narendra Modi welcomed the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and presented her with a formal guard of honour.

After the bilateral meeting, seven MoUs were signed between the two countries, including withdrawal of 153 cusecs of water from the common border river Kushiara.

The two Prime Ministers inaugurated several joint venture projects of the two countries. Among them is the 1320 MW coal-based thermal power plant at Rampal in Khulna.

Later, in a joint statement, India offered Bangladeshi goods free transit for exports to any third country. Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi reiterated their commitment to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India in the future.

On the same day, Sheikh Hasina attended a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister of India in her honour.

She paid separate courtesy calls on Indian President Draupodi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar that day and paid respects at Mahatma Gandhi's mausoleum at Rajghat.

On September 7, India's Northeast Region Development Minister G Kishan Reddy, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh separately.
