Prime Minister inaugurates 3 new rail lines

Dhaka, February 10: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated three new important rail lines constructed under Bangladesh Railways.

She inaugurated these railways by connecting virtually from her residence Gana Bhaban on Thursday (February 9).

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan was present in the Tongi-Joidebpur section. At the other end of the programme, officials from Shasidal in Comilla, Rajapur, Rooppur in Ishwardi in Pabna, and Tongi and Joydevpur sections were present. 69.20 kilometers built under the new three projects of railways have been added to the Bangladesh railway.

According to railway sources, 32 km long railway line from Kasba in Brahmanbaria district of Brahmanbaria district and from Shasidal in Comilla to Rajapur in double line, third and fourth dual gauge line in Dhaka-Tongi section and dual-gauge line in Tongi-Joidevpur section under construction project. Train operation on 11 km double line and Rooppur railway station in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, newly constructed and renovated 26.50 km railway line inaugurated.

In Dhaka-Tongi section, third and fourth dual gauge line 33.48 km route including the loop line of 116 km railway is being constructed. The cost of this project has been estimated at Tk 11,680 crore.

Meanwhile, Rooppur station has been built with the funding of the Ministry of Science and Technology. No passenger train will run through this station. The station will be used only for transporting goods and equipment for the Rooppur nuclear power plant project.
