Prime Minister going to Qatar tomorrow

Dhaka, March 3: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to visit Qatar tomorrow, Saturday, March 4, to attend the second phase of the Fifth United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC-5).

During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar. There, Dhaka will highlight the issue of cooperation in the energy sector.

This information was given in a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Seheli Sabrin, said that the second phase of the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC-5) will be held from March 5 to 9 in Qatar's Doha.

A high-level delegation led by the Prime Minister will attend the conference at the invitation of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The Prime Minister will address the LDC-5 conference as a special guest speaker on Sunday morning, March 5. In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will address a side event organized by Bangladesh, Nepal and Laos, three Asian countries on the way to transition from the list of least developed countries.

The Prime Minister will address a business summit jointly organized by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority as the chief guest. At noon on that day, the Prime Minister will attend the side event organized by Bangladesh as the chief guest.

The side event will be attended by ministerial level representatives of Egypt, Singapore, Estonia and high level representatives of several international organizations including WTTO, UN Tech Bank for LDCs. On the same day in the evening, the Prime Minister will participate in the Regional Ambassadors' Conference organized with the ambassadors of Bangladesh assigned to GCC countries, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

The prime minister is scheduled to co-chair a high-level roundtable meeting on Tuesday morning, March 7. In the afternoon of the same day, the Prime Minister will attend a side event organized by Bangladesh as the chief guest. Later, the Prime Minister will attend a community event organized by expatriate Bangladeshis in Qatar as the chief guest. The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to the country on March 8.
