Prime Minister pays tribute at Bangabandhu's tomb in Tungipara

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 15 August 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday paid deep respects to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 48th martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day by laying wreaths at Bangabandhu's mausoleum.

After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood in silence for a while paying deep respect to the memory of the great architect of freedom. At this time, a well-equipped team of the Bangladesh Armed Forces gave the national salute and a bugle was played.

Then along with younger sister Sheikh Rehana and her family members, the Prime Minister recited Fateha and prayed for the peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nescha Mujib and other martyrs who were victims of the massacre of August 15, 1975.

Speaker of the National Parliament, members of the Cabinet, heads of three forces, Inspector General of Police were present at this time. Apart from this, prayers are prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Later, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina along with senior leaders of Awami League on behalf of the party laid another wreath at Bangabandhu's tomb. Awami League's various organs and leaders of affiliated organizations also offered wreaths at the tomb.

On the occasion of the National Day of Mourning, the Prime Minister joined the Milad and Doa Mahfil along with the Cabinet members, her advisors and party leaders and workers at the mausoleum premises. Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury also paid tribute by placing wreaths at Bangabandhu's tomb.

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina reached Bangabandhu's ancestral home Tungipara by helicopter at 11:35 am today after laying wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation at 32 Dhanmondi in Dhaka as part of the national programme. The Prime Minister also laid wreaths and sprinkled flower petals on the graves of the martyrs of the August 15 massacre at the Banani Cemetery in Dhaka. She recited Fateha and joined the prayer.

The undisputed leader of Bengali Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his wife Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, his three sons-Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell and most of Bangabandhu's family members and his three close relatives were hit by the merciless bullets of a group of wayward army men on 15th of 1975. He was brutally murdered last night in August.

At that time, Bangabandhu's two daughters, the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana survived the assassination as they were abroad at that time.
